CARA Training Run Week 2

This morning we had our second official marathon training run with CARA.  I was in bed by 9:40 last night but the 5 AM wake up call was still a little painful.

Coffee helped, and my usual pre-run granola bar. 

We headed over to the meet up site and soon enough we were off on our 7 mile training run.

The weather was perfect.  Around 65 degrees, clear, and sunny.  We could actually see the lake that we were running next to today.

The run took us on the same route as last week – North along the lake. 

We stopped at Castaways where there was a Fleet Feet hydration station set up.

Then instead of continuing along the lake path our leader took a sharp left and up and over the bridge we went.   We ran a bit down a gravel path before hitting the halfway mark and turning around.

It was nice to get a bit of a change of scenery, not that Lake Michigan is hard on the eyes.

The way back was ALOT easier for me than the way out.  We had a new leader this week and she was moving.  My legs were so tired and my knees were hurting but eventually things worked themselves out and I felt good for the last few miles.

We cruised back into the harbor where yet another charity was waiting for us with snacks and Gatorade.

I can get through any last mile if I know there is a snack waiting for me at the end.  The Clif Chocolate Mint Builder’s Bar was tasty.  Another successful CARA training run in the books.

I’m not going to lie, I love it.  I love waking up so early to run with a group of people that all have the same goal.  It’s such an awesome way to start the day and having a group of people to suffer through those long runs is going to be money.  

After standing around and chatting for a bit BMB and I walked the scenic mile home.

I was a hot and sweaty mess and busted out a smoothie as soon as I walked in the door.  I couldn’t stand to deal with the busted blender again so I gave the food processor a shot. 

Today’s smoothie included 1 banana, a butt ton of spinach, 1 cup of mixed berries…

…Amazing Grass chocolate protein powder…

… and 1 cup of water and a handful of ice.

Blended all together for a chocolaty refreshing treat. 
Don’t judge me Jackie.  As expected, the food processor didn’t get in there like my blender of the good ol’ days would have, but it was good enough. 

Now it’s time to pack the bags again, as we’re heading out in an hour for good ol’ Milwaukee.   Have a great weekend!

  2. We probably passed each other out there this morning. (not to sound creepy or anything) I’m with CES for the training. It was so beautiful today!

    Your smoothie looks good. I would have never thought to throw spinach in with fruit.

    • where do you guys start? fleet feet? i have a friend thats doing the run/walk program with them and she loves it. yeah, i don’t really like eating salads so it’s a good way to get the spinach it and you can’t even taste it. a little bit of peanut butter is good too!

      • We meet at fleet feet and then walk over to the soft ball fields forannouncements, then we take off. So far I’m liking it. The people seem nice. It was my 2nd run with them because of my calf injury. I missed the last 2 weeks worth of group runs.

        How do you like CARA?

  3. Looks like you have a great training group there! I recently joined a running club – so I totally agree with you in that its awesome to run with people all with the same goal.

    I recently found your blog – really liking it. I passed it onto my sister too – her and i were trying to think of what she could blog about, and the only thing she said she loves enough to write about would be…..her cat!

  6. Another Chicao runner here! I trained with CARA (only did some of the runs with them) in 2009. I’m planning to do my marathon training with them this year for the most part. I start up at Montrose.
